A yummy Puddin

This is Puddin, a gorgeous puppy Spoodle. Puddin was full of life and was very playful, we got some lovely photos of her as you can see and she was so much fun to photograph.

Her beautiful chocolate coat was a lovely contrast to the white background, and even though her eyes are also brown, using the flash makes sure they don’t get lost among her fur.

Pet First Aid

Recently I undertook a First Aid for Pets course run through the Bark Academy.

During the one-day course I learnt how to assess emergencies, heat stroke, injuries, bites, shock and how to do basic treatment for many of these things. What was great about this course was that there were so many people there from different areas of the pet and animal industry and so most were able to share information and knowledge throughout.

It was interesting to find out that bites and heat stroke are two of the most common emergencies for pets and at least with heat stroke there is a lot you can do to prevent or help your dog when they get to that point, it was also interesting to note that most people (including me before this course) don’t know the early signs of heat stroke in their dog. Now that I know I am extra cautious on dog walks.

I would recommend this course for anyone with a pet or working in the pet industry, and tell your friends about it to, for more info go to: http://www.barkinthepark.com.au/Pet%20First%20Aid%20Course.html

On the same topic, I have recently come across an app for the iPhone that can help in cases of emergencies with pets – the Pet First Aid app lists symptoms and tells you how to administer first aid if needed. On this app you can also list information about your pet including vaccinations, vet details, microchip number and anything else you might need on you should you have to rush your pet to emergency. The app costs $3.99 and I think it is pretty good value for money.

Frankston Pets Day Out 2010

We had a fantastic day at the Frankston Pets Day out last Sunday.  It was a beautiful sunny day and that, along with the appearance of Dr Chris Brown, the Bondi Vet, saw more than 10,000 people in attendance.

We were run off our feet doing more than 30 photo sittings on the day and we had all kinds of dogs – Boston Terriers, Staffys, German Shepherds, Dachshunds and Jack Russells to name a few. It was a great day and all the dogs (and people) that had their photo taken with us were very patient. We hope that they will all be happy with their prints.

Many of the local councils in Melbourne run pet days and they are a great way to find services and products for your pet, so check out your local council’s website for more information on their pet expos, and who knows you might even see us at one or two.

Check out these couple of dogs we photographed at Frankston.

I love It! Guarantee

We are pleased to announce that we now offer a guarantee to all our clients that they will love their images. The I Love It! guarantee gives customers the satisfaction of knowing we will get a photo of their pet that is what they wanted.  This is our way of saying we want our customers to be as happy with their images as we are.

After a photo shoot, clients view their images and if they cannot find an image they love, then we will offer them a another sitting free of charge.

We are also offering another initiative for established clients – a referral system. Any client that refers a friend or family member will receive a gift if that referral becomes a booking. The more you refer the more you get back. This initiative is to show clients we appreciate it when they tell their friends and family about us.

Also out at the moment is our September quarter newsletter, to read the newsletter go to http://www.creaturefocus.com.au/newsletters

Two very cute sisters

Last weekend I had a special photo session with two sisters. Chiko and Koko are Poodle x Maltese one-year-olds, and they are full of life and just gorgeous.

On arriving at the shoot Chiko and Koko’s owner thought I might have been a salesperson as she her partner had organised the shoot as a surprise for her, and the sisters. I spent about an hour and half with the family and we got some lovely indoor and outdoor images (see below).

Photographing two dogs is an extra challenge, so generally I work with whichever dog is willing, and then swap, usually then ending with images of the two together. I find one of the hardest things to do is find tricks that work for both dogs at the same time.

The real trick is to just be patient and be ready for when they give you the look you want.

Until next time enjoy Chiko and Koko.

Meet Fletcher

I recently did a photo shoot for a friend of mine, whose miniature Schnauzer puppy had a heart defect.  Little Fletcher only had one of his four hear valves working and so would run out of breath very easily, he also needed to be on medication to ensure he didn’t get overly worked up as we all know puppies can do.  This has meant that Fletcher start to life has been quiet and subdue compared to most puppies, that is not to say that he isn’t full of life and very friendly – he most definitely is.

Fortunately Fletcher’s condition is not that uncommon and yesterday he underwent surgery to fix it.  I have heard from his Mum that the operation went even better than expected and Fletcher will make a full recovery, this means all his valves are now open and he can run around and play with other dogs and just be a puppy.  Needless to say his Mum and all his friends are very happy.

As I mentioned earlier I did a photo shoot of Fletcher for his Mum on Friday – here are a couple of shots.
